Julia was born and raised in Massachusetts. For undergrad, she moved to attend the University of Vermont as a biochemistry major. There she did her undergrad thesis work in Jason Stumpff’s lab. After undergrad, she moved on to better skiing in Seattle, WA. She spent 3 years there as a technician in Sue Biggins lab at Fred Hutch.

To continue her love for mitosis, microtubules, and mountains, she moved to California to join UC Berkeley’s Biophysics graduate program. In the lab she is continuing her love for the cytoskeleton by studying microtubule dynamics in yeast.
